About

These Stories Are Not Real is a six part fiction series, written, narrated and produced by me (I’m Gus—see below), with consulting production from Dr Helen Wolfenden. The series tells fun, self-contained and often pretty weird stories about waterpark catastrophes, regional travel agents, and teaching yourself to fly.

It all began as a uni assignment in the first half of 2018. I’ve worked, re-worked, forgotten about and then actively ignored these stories for about two years, before finally resurrecting them during the COVID lockdown.

I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed making them.

I’m Gus, Angus when I’m in trouble, and I’m often on time. Reasons I’ve been hospitalised include: catching a vortex, riding an electric scooter and drinking too much water (legit). My writing has been published in Voiceworks, and broadcast on FBi, and Radio National: Fictions.

I’ve never personally seen a picture of a podcaster/radio personality I knew only by voice and felt good about it after, so I know how you’re about to feel. Nonetheless, this is what I look like. For your records I guess? For, like, verification reasons? I don’t know—other podcasters have pictures of themselves on their websites and I don’t want to rock the boat. This is an incredibly saturated market and I’m just trying to fit in.

Listen to the show on Apple Podcasts here and on Google Podcasts here. Don’t listen to it on Spotify at all because it’s not there. For…uhh, reasons.
